Apathy over. Registering to vote.
I don’t think my particular vote will matter, but I have to have a clear conscience. So, thanks for that, Mitt Romney–your VP choice was frightening enough that I am rising up and standing up for choice.
I am flustered that it is THIRTY-SIX years after Roe v. Wade and this (this!) is my single-issue vote, but there you have it.
I hate to say yay, but yay! We’re going to need every vote.
I dunno, voting Democrat for NY State –> coals to Newcastle, etc.
I recently – and you have no idea how uncharacteristically – subjected some Israeli relatives to a rant about how I know it’s supposed to be a given that Orthodox Jews should vote Israeli security above all else, because (a) religion (b) life & death issue.
But…separation of church & state in the states is ALSO critical for Orthodox Jewish survival. And legal abortion is ALSO a life & death issue for Orthodox Jews. Not to mention affordable healthcare. So yeah, it may be a wrenching choice; but I don’t think it’s by any means a given.
Voting Democrat too. In NY. Where it won’t matter. *argh*
Clean conscience, chica.
I’m on a Facebook thread right now that I am going to regret–trying to explain why all women (Orthodox Jews included) should be concerned with the incursion to women’s rights. Not just “feminists.” And also how far halacha is from the GOP plank on abortion. It’s not going to turn out well.
Forward!
I am so glad to hear it! Although I don’t know you in real life, I honestly thought about sending you this when I saw it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rebecca-sive/why-would-any-woman-vote-_b_1820490.html
