Scene: In the car, listening to the Glee cover of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones.
AM: “Ema, this is the song you sing when I can’t have cookies for dessert!”
And this is why Ke$ha won’t last past the next decade–there is no takeaway message. Future hitmakers…chew on that, and then write a song with a chorus along the lines of “My job is not to make you happy; my job is to keep you safe.” I’ll be your #1 fan.
Ha! You are totally correct! And I agree, those would be amazing lyrics set to a catchy tune.
HAHAHAHA – oh that’s really funny!
There’s nothing like the “classics”
Thanks for the laugh!

I sing that song to my kids, too!
My Mom tops us, though. We used to clean the house to the song “Bony Fingers”. Chorus: “Work your fingers to the bone, and what do you get? Bony fingers!” Awesome. I can’t wait to indoctrinate my kids. Pumpkin is almost old enough.
Parenting through songs. I like.
Like Rachel Berry, we’ve decided that original songs can sometimes get the point across the best. Hence our song, set to the tune of “hey dum diddly dum”

That is hysterical, and a very astute observation on the state of popular music.
Wait, your kid complains about not getting cookies for dessert? My kid complains about not getting cookies for breakfast! (He has no empirical evidence that this will ever happen, since it never has, and yet this conversation happens almost every morning.) Clearly I need Mick.
I don’t really have anything really funny to add (since I’m reading this instead of getting ready for Shabbat) Loved everyone’s comments! Guess I’d better go now…
Oh, hey, I’ve been singing this to Adiel pretty much since he was born – especially whenever he’d get hungry and be looking my way when his Ima wasn’t around 😉
The funny thing is, up until about a month ago, singing it to him WORKED. We have video proof.
Amen.
Just discovered this blog and aliyah by accident. Both wonderful. LOL I enjoy singing these to my children but I’m sure they don’t enjoy it as much.
Welcome to crazytown, then. Gila’s funnier, but I sometimes make challah from scratch.
