I am spitting mad, on behalf of my friend Shanna and her family.
In the face of a blizzard in New York, you did NOT cancel flight 002 on December 26, but rather forced everyone to come to Kennedy airport (or face forfeiture of their tickets), boarded the plane, and sat frozen to the tarmac for 10 hours. Followed by a delay in the airport, ultimately taking off 30 hours late.
This turmoil of this flight was covered by the American and Israeli media. The people who kept kosher were saved by Yanky Brach and other big-hearted people in the 5 Towns and Far Rockaway.
You promised the individuals on this plane that the fees to change their return tickets to America would be waived.
Shanna and her family would like to stay an extra two or three days beyond their original return. Beyond that would be too disruptive to their work and school lives. Their travel agent at home spoke to your ticketing agents for an HOUR and could not make that happen.
Why? Were the flights on those dates fully booked? No. Rather the price of those EMPTY plane seats does not match the price that they originally paid.
So you refuse to book them, instead offering only a return flight home that is FIVE days extra beyond what they are capable of staying AND delivers them to Newark airport. (All the New Yorkers reading know that Kennedy and Newark ARE NOT THE SAME…or even that close, when you factor in traffic and/or weather.)
Really, you want to make this even MORE of a PR disaster for you? Because there are plenty of other airlines who fly here:
Continental, Delta, Air Canada, and USAirways fly direct from North America.
British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, KLM, Swissair, Iberia, and many others fly here via Europe.
We have Twitter. We are not afraid to use it.

Here is Shanna’s own letter to El Al. If you have any ideas out of this mess, please @ her or me!
