Once upon a time, I read cookbooks for fun. I’d bring home a whole stack from the library and read them over Shabbat, drooling over the pictures. I had a subscription to Bon Appetit.
Now I rely on old favorites and new recommendations. And I never have to remember where I put the recipes, because they are all in that thar computer thing.
Friends are coming over for Shabbat dinner whom we’ve owed for a long time, but the hot summer and first trimester pregnancy ick (hers, not mine) intervened. I’ve promised brisket and soup (they’re Canadian, so appreciate my NEED for real maple syrup).
I’ve made Dilly Beans with the huge flat beans you can get here now and Lemon Coleslaw (no dairy, of course) and Cookie Sticks. I even threw over my tried and true apple crisp recipe from the Silver Palate for Shanna’s apple crisp because I think she actually might be even more obsessed with food than Lukins & Rosso. And I mean that as a compliment.
Just have to roast some potatoes and I’m done….
Shabbat shalom —
שבת שלום ומבורך
(I know nobody is supposed to be interested what you’re eating or cooking or whatever, but I can think of at least three people who will enjoy this post. That’s enough for me.)
